A Game Of Thrones | Review

I liked the Idea of the story in this book and think there is a hell of a lot of potential, but unfortunately I didn't really enjoy the book too much. I found the the story to be very difficult you get into, and find it gets slow a lot and often a bit boring. Some part were interesting, but unfortunately for the most part not so much.

The writing at the start makes it extremely difficult to get into, though you eventually get used to the writing as you get into the book and get accustomed to certain characters. I didn't mind the dialogue too much and found it to be the most interesting part of the book in some chapters.

I think some of the writing is basic depending which chapters you are reading and complex with others. I just wish it was a better mix of the two. I think the writing could have been better to make the book less confusing, easier to read and get me through it a lot quicker.

When I started the book, the characters are very confusing and that there is too many (8 In total), I know it doesn't seem a lot, but when you first start it’s confusing and frustrating as you try and figure out and remember who is who.

I found that Bran, Jon and Arya are my favourite characters in the book. I find Arya relate-able as she doesn't stay within the social norms as a young lady. Jon is a very nice young man for the most part during the book despite his circumstances. Bran is an adorable and one of the more innocent characters in the book.

All in all I found this book to be so-so, giving it two stars, only because my favourite character earned it an extra star. I don’t plan to read anything else by the author as I didn't find this to be very enjoyable and can’t recommend.

The Secret Scripture | Review

This book has a great concept, but wish I had enjoyed it a little more.

When I started reading this book, I thought OK this might be good, but found it to be rather slow. If quickened slightly it would've kept my attention better and shortened the book by 25-50 pages.

I also found this book to be rather predictable. I figured out what the major plot twist/surprise ending was going to be half way through the book. I was slightly disappointing because it took away from the end of the book.

I enjoyed reading what the psychiatrist had to say in his notes. It was interesting to see how his character managed with a personal loss as well as dealing with Roseanne and the hospital closure.

As interesting and shocking as Roseanne's past was, I wish it was written differently. To me it seemed a little slow or poetic in some parts. I would have thought her memoir section would have been better as the book is mostly based upon her life.

Overall this book was just OK it could have been a little better with pacing and predictability. This caused me to remove two stars from the rating, giving it three stars.

The Snow Child - Eowyn Ivy | Review

I have to say that i was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed this book. I know not to judge a book by it's cover but the cover was enchanting and reflects the quality of the text.

In some parts of the book it was a bit slow but the quality of writing was still brilliant.Maybe Eowyn Ivey should have tried a slightly quicker plot, but at the same time try to keep the quality of the writing.

The descriptions in the book were amazing especially on page 8 were I found the description spectacular. 'The sun was setting down the river, casting a cold pink hue along the white-capped mountains that framed both sides of the valley...' The rest of that paragraph is amazing.

Overall it is a great novel with amazing descriptive pieces, topped off with a fantastic cover. Eowyn Ivey did a great job and would definitely recommend this book.

The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton | Quick Review

I have heard so many mixed reviews of this book and have left it aside for months thinking I might not like it. So when a friend of mine said she had the book we organised a buddy read so I'd force myself to get round to it and ended up enjoying this book so much.


The characters and plot were great and didn't find it to slow or long winded like some say it is. I enjoyed this thoroughly and if you enjoy historical/literary fiction then I can recommend.
